After setting the NLS_DATE FORMAT to DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS, try this:

select sysdate a, (sysdate - 1/(24*60*60)) b from dual;

A                    B
-------------------- --------------------
24-OCT-2000 16:54:46 24-OCT-2000 16:54:45 Paul
