I thought that Kay's = reply was a valid one. He did not imply that Oracle Support told her = "horse hockey", he merely stated that one could use the = hidden parameter without any problems if one's database was shutdown = with immediate or normal.

Furthermore, it is = ok for Winnie to perform a recovery scenario that will place her = database in unsupported mode as long as she performs the necessary = tasks to get her database supported again, which can be done (by her = own words) with an Export.

I'll give you the = benefit of doubt by assuming that you haven't had your morning = coffee.  ;)

    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oracle Support stated very clearly = that the database would not be in a
supported state (meaning they have = the option of NOT answering any future
problem questions) if the hidden = parameter is used.

So you are telling Winnie that what = support told her is a load of horse
hockey. Now, maybe it's true that the = database will be fine if she has done
a shutdown normal or immediate (but = if the online logs are lost the odds are
high she had to do a shutdown abort = to close the database in any case). But
whether or not it's true, support = said that Oracle's policy is that the
database is no longer in a supported = state.

It's TOTALLY irresponsible to tell = someone that they do not have to do what
Support told them in this = case.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt and = assume that the "too much travel this
week" meant that you were tired = and not thinking clearly when you said that.
