RE: Start/Stop a Listener

I think I was confused because sometimes, I like to run lsnrctl and get a status on the listener. If you try renaming your listener.ora file,
and then do a status command in lsnrctl, Oracle gives you error message tns-01101: Could not find service name. That indicates to me that the lsnrctl command does look at the listener.ora file for some commands. So if you modify this file before stopping the listener, the status command may indicate a problem.

But before this discussion, I was unaware of the reload option. Thanks.

nope, you don't. The listener.ora file is read and loaded when the listener is started and then not read again until you either reload or stop and start

the listener. Just as with the init.ora file.
