Oracle as CORBA client?

Quick point-in-the-right-direction question. We're currently running Oracle 8.0.5, working on an upgrade to 8.1.6. I've read lots of sales and marketing stuff saying that Oracle 8i "does CORBA".

Disclaimer: I don't know a whole heck of a lot about CORBA and its details. However, we have another data source on campus that is exposing data via a CORBA interface ("factory"?), which we would like to use. Can Oracle 8i be setup to act as a CORBA client and thus let me suck data down from their source directly? And/or can I write PL/SQL procs/functions that can access CORBA data sources?

I'm just looking for some hints in the right direction so that I know if spending lots of time trying to figure this out will actually yield any results in the long run or not. :-)
