Hi Cherie,

This is a major upgrade. If you are using any Java, expect at least a few hours' downtime. Any time you modify the data dictionary this radically, you definately need a maintenance window. Without Java, my upgrades took ~2 hours.

Good Luck, my 8.1.5->8.1.6.2 upgrade was a nightmare, both from my mistakes and errors with Java. However, I'm HP/UX, not Solaris. I hope your experience is better than mine was. I had to recover and back out the first time. Let me know if you want more details.

To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Subject: Can 8.1.5 to 8.1.6 be done with patches?

Is there some sort of megapatch or patch bundle that can be downloaded to upgrade from 8.1.5 to 8.1.6?

Is this a fairly simple upgrade that can be done sort of transparently to the users? Or is it a major upgrade that is more appropriate to be done with a CD and a regular upgrade maintenance window of a day or two of system downtime?

TIA, Cherie
