The upgrade is (depends on your environment) at least one script. In the 'migrate guide' there's a good description. I've done a mamual upgrade (not a production db) and it took about 2 hours, the db was about 2 Gb. The upgrade / migrate script also runs 'catalo' and 'catproc' so your objects will be invalid. This was / is the longest part.
