I think Oracle will start cleaning the temporary tablespace up gradually after the reboot of the instance. I guess it is the deferred cleaning! :P

I have seen couple of time even after rebounce of database (7.3.4) temporary
tablespace is not released and you have to make it offline and then immediately online to get release of space. Regards

Hi,

This I believe is normal behaviour for temporary tablespace created as temporary. Oracle reuses the extents in the tablespace. It will be cleared on restart or alter tablespace. Don't worry about it you'll have less overhead this way

When we run a process in the database, the Temp tablespace fills up. Looking at OEM Storage Manager, shouldn't the Amount Used decrease back down to zero after the process has been finished and committed when there isn't anything else running on the database? Ours doesn't seem to clear out. Does temp clear out when the table being sorted is no longer being sorted or is there some other DB process that comes along periodically and cleans it out?
