Lee,

        We had some similar problems. Over here they were caused by stored procedures that were being executed and hadn't finished before the Shutdown Immediate.

        We decided to do a shutdown abort, startup again, and then issue the shutdown immediate. It was the only way for us to assure the DB would be shut down at the time we wanted.
