Hi,

For those that may be interested:

8i Release 3

I just noticed on Oracle web site
(http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/index.html?328117.html0 a press release dated 25-Sep-2000 stating that "
Oracle8i Release 3 for IBM OS/390 is planned to be available in 30 days, coinciding with the availability of Oracle8i Release 3 for the major UNIX, Windows and Linux operating systems.
...
Oracle8i Release 3 is scheduled to be available in 30 days, and offers the latest Internet features, including built-in support of Java and XML. Oracle8i Release 3 also includes new security enhancements such as support for Triple DES (Data Encryption Standard) and integration with the Entrust PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) for authentication and single sign-on. Furthermore, the Oracle8i database now comes with precompiled modules to work out-of-the-box with the ubiquitous Apache web server. "

and from an email I received about Open World from Oracle "
ANNOUNCING ORACLE9i
Oracle OpenWorld will be both exciting and educational as you experience the launch of Oracle9i and get the latest news and views on ASPs, B2B, hosting and wireless.
"

As to which of these (if either) will be called 8.1.7 or 8.2, who knows?

Regards,
Bruce Reardon

To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Subject: what 817 might end up being called

oracle is planning on desupporting 8.0.5 and 8.1.5

8.0.6 is the final release of 8.0.x
8.1.6 is the final release of 8.1.x (maybe)

I have heard varying that 8.1.7 will be renamed to 8.2 or will be renamed to

9i
