I must admit that I've been feeling that the OOW mails have been getting numerous but perhaps it's just sour grapes because I'm not able to go this year. However, I've enjoyed reading them. Makes me feel like I can participate even while I'm here in Minneapolis on call 24 hours a day.

I think most Oracle DBAs would admit that it can be a demanding, stressful, long-hours, and often-thankless job. It's easy for me to forgive people for getting excited about taking a break from all the work and getting away to a different, and often exciting location. The chance to meet seldomseen  colleagues and partake of all the excellent sessions, papers, food, etc. is something we really look forward to. Plus, I personally enjoy getting some insight into the personalities of the professionals that respond so frequently and give of their time and experience to help their colleagues. It makes them seem more human.

Given that this is an international Oracle-sponsored event, I think that mail on OOW is on-topic. If you're tired of seeing this subject line, just hit the old delete button. Received on Wed Sep 27 2000 - 07:50:59 CDT
