I think the idea being that $80K US would in turn be worth that much more in terms of buying power when translated into AU dollars.

What you want to do is be paid the most money you can, in the currency of the country you live and work in.... NOT the country (necessarily) of your birth, unless they are one and the same

And for example, salaries in different states in the US for equivalent jobs range widely
