We've been using Oracle on Redhat for quite some time. 8.1.5 is a little quirky, but 8.1.6 on Redhat 6.2 works just fine. I've had no problems.

We're currently running it on everything from E-machines with 128mb of memory to VA-Linux machines with 2gb of memory. Personally, I'd recommend VA-Linux over E-machines. :>)

One of my co-workers came with this question to me. Can anyone make a recommendation ?

I have a client who wants to try out Oracle 8 on a Linux, Intel platform.

The requirement is to load an export of an operational database and allow a single user to interrogate it with a suitable reporting tool.

Does anyone have an experience/advice about this, initially I am thinking of things such as:
