it's new in 8.1.6 and you have to have compatible set to 8.1.6 in your init.ora

Cons? well, it doesn't keep each statement in the shared pool, so if you are repeating the EXACT statement (constants and all), it will still get changed.

so far, I haven't found any real problems with it.
