Hello,

Recently we had a Support Analyst from Oracle's Center of Excellence in house to diagnose quite a few problems we have running Parallel Server with 8.0.6 and 8.1.6 on IBM AIX RS6000 HACMP Clusters.

The workaround for one of our problems includes issuing shutdown aborts on our databases on one member of our cluster if a LAN becomes unavailable.

I asked Oracles support analyst if there is any problem doing a shutdown abort,
in particular database corruption or errors, and he claimed no, shutdown abort
is a perfectly safe thing to do.

Now, I am not one to routinely second guess employees of Oracle when they discuss their product, but I just don't believe this. It seems that a shutdown abort
may cause problems when you try to bring the database back up, especially if issued while one of the background tasks is in the process of moving data from
memory to disk.

Can anyone out there either confirm or deny these words of wisdom from Oracle support?
