Janardhana, Matt, you were both right. I see it now. I'm verifying it with support and now wondering why they didn't ask me that in the first place...?

Iam pretty sure that the upgrade process (at any time) is to upgrade to base release only (in your case 8.1.6.0.0 is the base release). This is how Iam doing eversince Oracle7. Pl. double check and let me know if this is wrong.
