We have had some generic COMM FAILUREs as well. My gut feeling is that it has nothing to do with the database, and everytime it happened, we just reboot the BroadVision instance, and the problem went away. I know it sounds very much like an MicroSoft solution, but hey, BroadVision is taking a very MS-like approach to the internet app server anyway. Hope it helps.
