Yes, the new version of OEM does ask you to point in this string t:node:SID if you have not yet set up the tnsnames.

Don't know why it comes back at all!! :P

Actually, they put it back in again. Not sure if you can do it with all tools or not since I usually use the sid but I have done it with the new versions of Enterprise Manager. It is also how they connect with the Java code they write here.

The t:node:SID method of connecting via SQL*Net died several years ago with SQL*Net V1. It is a shame that Oracle hasn't taken that out of the developer
2000 install yet.

OK, What you need to do is start a listener for your local instance (yeah, that's a little lame. but necessary). Then you can restart the developer install and provide that service name instead of the local sid.

I have installed Oracle 8.0.5 and Developer/2000 (on WNT Server ,SP5).When I
started Developer 2000 Build I had to :enter password for SYSTEM (and it was
OK) and
enter database connection (e.g t:node:SID) [local]. When I entered my SID nothing was happen.
Can anybody tell me what I have to do?I work like Oracle DBA only two months,
and I realy need help.
PS Forgive me for my bad English.
