listers,
does anybody know of any major or in actual fact even minor problems with regards to the use of the parallel_automatic_tuning and parallel_adaptive_multi_user init.ora parameters.

i have a 4 way sun 450 with a massive 2gb of ram and oracle with the above parameters set at true has decided that i can run at least 43 parallel query slaves.

now with the developers love for sort_area_size=64mb and sort_area_retained at the same time, you can imagine that im having some paging issues.

eg current swith rate hangs around 1300 - 4000 ops ..... doooooh !

having done this, its also decided that a large_pool_size of 64mb seems quite suitable. eeeem looking at v$sgastat tells me that there is 57mb free. vi time.

basically im finding that these 2 params are causing massive problems for my box and i'd love any insight/thoughts into how the number of parallel query slaves is deduced.

otherwise its back to setting the ol' min and max parameters manually.

many tks
kc
