Oracle 7 to 8 migration too slow

We are going to move from Oracle 7.3.2.3 to Oracle 8.0.6 in a HP-UX box by imp/exp method. But problem is that it's terrible slow to run. Oracle support told, that it's even slower to migrate the database. So questions:

• is there any other/faster methods to do it?
• is there any third party tools for that?
• how have You to managed to do it in reasonable time? (in our box it took about two hours for one gig. to imp/exp data through a pipe between two machines)
• is there any web site and/or white papers about issue?
