"And it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel  is just a freight train coming your way... "

  Hi , all !

May be this one is quite off-topic , but i hope U'll excuse me ....

I'm just curious to compare Oracle with other DBMSs ( like Informix , = Sybase , SQL Server , mySQL , DB2 etc ... ) from DBAs point of view ?

Is anyone administering or administered other DBMSs ? Was it easy to = switch from it to Oracle ?

I consider myself as an intermediate level Oracle DBA . I have pretty = good understanding of Oracle logics . Does that mean that it will be = easy for me to became Informix or Sybase DBA ? =20

  Are there the same DB components ? ( Are there definitions like SGA , = datafile , logfile , tablespace , index , sort_area_size , SQL*Loader , = snapshot , db_block_size etc.. in other DBMSs ? )=20

Another point : we all know that Oracle is developing very fast : they = introduced Java stored procedures , XML , objects , InterMedia , IFS , = etc ....
What do others do ? What's going on in the market ?

The bottom line is : if there is a strong demand for Informix , = Sybase or Sql Server DBAs tomorrow , can i easily become one ? Is it = like to start writing TCSH scripts when U have a strong KSH background , = or something more complicated ?

THANKS a lot in advance !
