Resizing file will work if the space is not used yet.
Resizing to smaller size depends on how much space is allocated already by
Oralce. Check by querying DBA_FREE_SPACE on a file basis.
You can resize to a size which is used. Meaning, that if Oracle already
allocated 5MB of the datafile, then, resize it to 6M and leave it that way.

I don't think that will work because all of the data files are numbered and
recorded in Oracle. I do not know all of the inside particulars but the file
numbers are storred in the DBA_DATA_FILES table. The best way is to resize
the data file to a minimul size if you can't export and recreate the
tablespace.
