Abid,

Unix is pretty flexible and you can pick from a variety of shells(e.g. csh,ksh,bash) in which to script. Depending on the flavor of UNIX and the shell you choose, there are different ways of scripting.

For what it's worth, O'Reilly's "Learning the Korn Shell" is a pretty good introduction to shell scripting. It not only teaches you the essentials of ksh scripts, but points out some of the differences between the korn shell and the others.
