Sandy,

Based on the size of this database and the amount of data being loaded, I am assuming that this in a data wharehouse.

Well, here are 4 choices that I can think of.

  1. If you have disk space to spare, then definitely give your archive log destination more space. I would think that would be the easiest..
  2. Backup to tape more frequently, every 2 hours instead of 4.
  3. Increase the size of your redo logs so you do not switch as often. Then your archive logs will be larger of course and you may run into the problem of archive log space on disk.
  4. Maybe you do not need to perform logging on every table that you are loading data into. I am not sure that this is a good option, but if you take hot backups after data loads, then you would not need so much archive log space.
