I was almost in the similar situation and got the following reply from Oracle Support.

I was on HP-UX 10.20 8.0.5 and would like to move on to HP-UX 11.0 Oracle 8.1.5. They gave me two possible solutions: Oracle 8.0.5 for HP-UX 10.20 is different from Oracle 8.0.5 for HP-UX 11.0 and so I can not bringup the database after the HP upgrade to 11.0. I need to upgrade oracle8.0.5(HP-UX 10.20 version) to oracle8.0.5(HP-UX 11.0 version) and then from 8.0.5 to 8.1.5. They sent me some documentation for this on how to do.

The 2nd alternative is to upgrade HP-UX10.20 to HP-UX11.0 and then use export/import to create DB in 8.1.5.

I chose the 2nd alternative and everything is fine now.

I still have some more databases to be moved to 8.1.5 and I have to choose the 1st alternative for them, but not yet.

OK Folks,

This is a question I've posed to OWS and gotten an answer on, but I'd like a
double check on what they've told me. Consequently I'm not going to tell you
what OWS said.

Here is the situation:

We've an HP9000 T500 running HP-UX 10.20 and Oracle 8.0.5 with a 10GB database
thereon.

We want to move the database to an HP9000 L2000 running HP-UX 11.0 (64 bit) and
Oracle 8.0.5 (64 bit). [It's an HP support thing]

Question, Can we just take a cold backup of the original database and place it
on the new server & then run the database, OR do we need to export the original
and import it into the new server?

Metalink is not really helpful as there are contradictory posts thereon, and as
I said I'm not going to post what OWS said just yet. Anyone try this before???
