Hi,
You are confusing REGEDIT and REGEDT32.
NEVER use REGEDIT to edit the NT registry settings or you run the risk of corrupting it. I don't know all the specifics but I have read and been told this numerous times.
One reason is REGEDIT cannot handle all the KEY and DATA TYPES of the NT registry as it was originally created for windows 95. REGEDIT does have a handy search tool which I use but when I find what I am searching for I use REGEDT32 to edit. HTH -
