Multiple Oracle Homes on OpenVMS

Hi folks,

Oracle's insistance on translating my rooted logicals for Oracle installs is becoming quite the pain in the ass. I need to upgrade from 8.0.5.0.1 to 8.0.5.1.0 on OpenVMS. Oracle requires a second ORACLE_HOME for the new software.

I had created the 8.0.5.0.1 tree in the ORACLE8 user's root (SYS$LOGIN) directory. But now, I don't know where to put the 8.0.5.1.0 directory. If I try to put it as a subdir, the installer complains that the new version's in a subdir. If I try to move the 0.1 dir to a subdir, I need to go thru all the .COMs and .ORAs to change the locations. I may have missed one, though, as I can't fire up any networking, but yet I can't find which file I missed. WHY WON'T ORACLE LET ME USE ROOTED LOGICALS???

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUGH!

Besides creating a new account, what have other admins done?
