just out of interest, actually sat at the metalink stand at eoug and they are getting the same problems with reloads of the proxy and also the speed factor.

spoke to one of the function developers of metalink and he reported that there will be another new release of metalink coming to a pc near you soon using their new soon to be named portal with various portlets within it.

far greater customisations will be available to the masses as part of this which will mean just getting what you want to see.

also search engine will be modified to resolve issues of receiving numerous docos´on same item etc etc. apparently the engine will be similair to that used internally which allows support reps quicker and a far greater level of granuality on search criteria.

according to rep, if you are using the singapore link, main problem there is the pipe out of there. absolutely clagged.

basically gets rid of the majority of the java components (really unhappy about that ;-)) and has a far simpler interface.

just thought that you might be interested. how much of this happens ... who knows but please dont´ flame the messenger.

also keep your eyes peeled on technet.oracle.com on or around 28-6 for a _major_ _major_ announcement by god himself. apparently he will be announcing ´the new world´ with regards to oracles webdb 3 (which will be renamed to .....) and the way that oracle does business with us mere mortals.
