Yes , thats true. But no body does reporting on current data which is being fed into the system.
And the assumption of standby database is that during the night time database will be
switched to read only mode and the batch jobs will be kicked off. Otherwise alsothe
batch job has to take a snapshot of the data which is already there not the data currently getting
in. Morning 5 o'clock or whatever time u want it will be switched back to standby managed recovery mode
and Oracle will automatically apply all the logs which are pending. So it's no pain for u.

And the process can be automated, you don't have to manually switch the mode. Basically
the standby database is meant for reporting purpose over and above the advantage of
high availability.

yaa but when you open database as read only mode you can't apply redo logs from the prod database. So you don't have upto minute info. so now you have to go back to standby and apply all the pending redo logs ... i think it's pain switching all the time between read only and stand by...
