Remember when all the VAX/VMS SysAdms said PC servers were silly?!

Well, I guess the Novell people can at least be thankful that they aren't DEC!

That is correct. Oracle7 on Netware 3 probably could run on a 386, and a 486 worked ok for early v7, but a Pentium (even low end) was likely better by the time 7.2/7.3 came out.

>Guess it's going the way of the BetaMax.

Here is a main technical problem with Netware:

"NLM" Hard for developers to write (compared to server application code on equivalent low end Unix/MS platforms).

---

Other than that, who knows? I think it will take a while for Netware
to die (Novell's multiplatform DNS will probably live on for those
that don't like MS Active Directory?), and Oracle is continuing to
support Netware4/5.

You can not run Oracle8 in Netware3 style "bindery" mode as far as I
know.

Which brings up the other problem: Netware 5 is starting to suffer
from code/feature bloat (similar to MS products, except probably a
lot less buggy?)

regards,
ep
