RE: Work vs marriage

Conventional wisdom is that there are several factors in the USA:

• a lot of guys are jerks, whereas most women are perfect :)
• high geographic/lifestyle mobility (disconect from extended family & community & church, and/or other social alienation leads to less emphasis on "family values")
• consumeristic/"instant-gratification" mentality & strong individualism means less of strong traditional family orientation (eg, vs. Europe)
• great deal of confusion about social roles of women/men, and what "equality" ends up meaning to people
• more women have the social/financial resources to escape bad, unfulfilling, abusive (...) relationships
• did I forget to say that most guys are jerks, and almost all women are perfect?

(I'm sure people can refute, clarify, or add a lot to the above)

most people that are divorced, or are having relationship problems are not going to admit it in public, whereas people that are successful/happy will probably like to talk.
