I recently had a similar question and opened a tar with Oracle. There are = issues using 8.0.5 RMAN with 8.1.5 databases. Check out Metalink:

Note 73431.1 RMAN (Oracle8) Compatibility Matrix

Bug 850960: Due to incompatibility with .plb files between 8.0 and 8.1 and = pl/sql package size restriction in 8.0, you cannot create 8.1 catalog = schemas in 8.0 databases.=20

Bug 893864: Restores for a 8.0.4/8.0.5 target with an 8.1 catalog schema = do not work (backups work). This is fixed in 8.0.6 and will be backported = to 8.0.5 as requested. Although all backport requests for this bug to be = fixed in 8.0.5 patch have been rejected. The workaround is to do the = restore with the target database not mounted. However, some customers = have not found this workaround to work.

Hope this info helps.

Does anyone know if you can run version 8.0.5 of RMAN on an 8.1.5 database or do I need the upgrade version of RMAN to 8.1.5?

Thanks in advance!
Val
