RE: SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE is not clean???

Hi Rachel:

A shutdown immediate *is* a clean shutdown. It's basically just the same as a normal shutdown except that instead of waiting for the sessions to finish, they are all stopped immediately (hence the name!) and rolled back as necessary. There should be no need to startup restrict and shutdown. Many people seem to do it "just to be sure". Don't know about Intelligent Agent, though. (Is that an oxymoron?)

Regards,

Colin.

p.s. IIRC, there's a good diagram of shutdowns in Velpuri's Backup Handbook.

Rich,

Well first, I don't think you drank enough beer this weekend if you are already reading installation manuals :)

As far as I know, the shutdown immediate is not quite a clean shutdown. Cleaner certainly than a shutdown abort.

you DO need to stop the Intelligent Agent and then startup restrict and shutdown
