No, there is not a host command.

In 8.1.x there are 2 ways to do this.

  1. Use an external library call. You write code in C that will call your script via fork() and execl(). ( I think this is mostly correct. not docs avail at the moment. ) This also requires an entry in listener.ora.
  2. Use DBMS_PIPES to pass messages to an external daemon running outside the database. The daemon can be in C or Perl or darn near anything.
