if any varchar column is indexed... dont try to do an insert or update on this (u will wait... wait... wait.... ) .

And, I agree, why 255?. Why not 256?, or 283982783?... .or 849.232?...

Oh, by the way, I liked this argument "to keep maintenace down in the future, so we don't have to
change the database every time when need a column resized". I think its not a big cost... and of course you can avoid it thinking on the use of each column.

Developer error... replace developer to continue
