Houck Computing Center at Oberlin College seeks an energetic, congenial, organized, team-spirited and self-motivated individual to join the staff of its Administrative Computing Services group as an Analyst/Programmer. The Analyst/Programmer is a full-time Administrative and Professional Staff position responsible for the development and support of administrative information systems servicing the major administrative functions of the institution. Oberlin's current administrative computing infrastructure is a mixture of RMS/COBOL-based systems and newer Oracle-based systems using Oracle tools (SQL*Forms, SQL*Menus, SQL*ReportWriter, Pro*COBOL and Pro*C). Client Macintosh and DOS/Windows machines in the administrative offices communicate with the central systems over the campus-wide ethernet network, which is also connected to the internet. Oberlin anticipates a major migration in the near future to vendor-supplied software for the largest administrative systems. The Administrative Computing Services group will maintain the older in-house developed systems, implement the migration to new systems, and develop customized add-ons to enhance the capabilities of the vendor software. The candidates of most interest will display the following qualities: o A minimum of 2 years experience in programming complex information systems, preferably in a higher education setting, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. o Business analysis, planning and organizational skills. o Knowledge of C or COBOL and experience with the Oracle relational database management system and related tools. Experience with VAX/OpenVMS and/or Unix. o The ability to communicate well orally and through written reports, especially in the area of communicating technical concepts to non-technical users. Oberlin College is a highly selective liberal arts college of 2800 students located in the rural environment of northeastern Ohio, yet having convenient access to metropolitan Cleveland. The college provides a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus attractive benefits which include a generous pension program, medical and long-term disability insurance, one month annual vacation, life insurance, and tuition support for children.
