Is there any remaining space on the hard disks? Just a guess. We have had this happen with Oracle/Novell when a volume runs out of hard disk space. When this happened, the Oracle instance died and we could not restart until more space was made available. I hope this helps. I was creating a number of tablespaces this afternoon and during one of them the pmon process crashed. Now after shutting down the instance and trying to bring it up I am getting errors that it cannot write the trc files. Nothing has changed on the server or within oracle so I have no idea how to fix the problem. I can't open the database, I can't recover it. Has anyone ever seen this message or had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. The error I am getting is ORA-07497: sdpri: cannot create trace file . Thanks. Mary
