I got replies from several people on the list about this problem; they ran Unix on Sun, Sequent, and we are on AIX. The shared pool fills up regardless of size, and you get the 04031 message--or worse. My note mentioned the wrong release in one place: I am on 7.2.2.3 (not 7.3). Oracle has a patch which is supposed to fix this problem. It is also supposed to be fixed in 7.2.3 which is available for many platforms.

However, when you call Oracle support, the may still give you the canned answer about pinning or say they know of no SGA problems in 7.2.2.3. Don't know why they can't their problem database up to date!? Anyway, the bug numbers associated with this problem are: 309484, 322904, 318582 and 323222. I plan on applying the patch for these bugs, then applying the 7.2.2.4 patch which fixes a number of other known problems with 7.2.2.3. Hopefully, then I will be on a fairly clean release! If you're starting out with 7.2, stay away from 7.2.2.3 and save yourself some grief!

My thanks to everyone on the list--this is one those occasions where you've been more helpful and better informed (at least initially) then Oracle's technical support. Received on Tue Jan 09 1996 - 17:11:20 CST
