CHAR/VARCHAR2 and Compatibility

Greetings all,

Is there some way to enforce the "SET COMPATIBILITY 6" in Forms 4?

If I can't use CHAR datatypes, because of the trailing spaces, I look like
having to convert some 400 tables, with 4,500 columns, from CHAR to VARCHAR2. This is because I cannot create a relationship between two CHAR datatypes in Forms, and I can't even select a narrative or description where the key
is a CHAR datatype.

According to TFM, SET COMPATIBILITY will enforce the V6 rules to the CHAR datatype, so that they would no longer be padded with trailing spaces, however, I can't find a way to enforce that compatibility within Forms 4.

I look forward to seeing the collective opinion.
