i have created table

create table a
(flag varchar2(1))

create table a
(flag char2(1));

what diff char(1), varchar2(1)

None for SQL maybe big problem for your programs.
Never use CHAR always use VARCHAR2.

Read AskTom shoud I use char or varchar2

Besides, there's no CHAR2 datatype. How did you manage to
create table a
(flag char2(1));
Do not [code] something you *think* you did; why didn't you simply post the whole SQL*Plus session instead?
