Hi,

Could someone please tell me the use of raw datatype and when exactly is used?

On my database it is used to for a column sys_updt_time, in short the time when the record was last updated is stored there.

However, I heard from a few senior dbas here, that it would be better to use a timestamp here instead of raw as it may lead to performance issues.

Is this true? which datatype is preferred in the above case?

Thanks,

Sharath

TIMESTAMP is indeed a better choice.
