I was nder theimpression that null and empty were the same.
But recently someone told me that both of them were treated separately in Oracle ,which I find hard to accept, because Oracle does not give return any data for the following:
1)Insert into employee values(101,'Smith','')
assuming the table has nly three fields

2) Select * from employee where dept=''
it does not give me any output.
3)Select * from employee where dept is null
fetches the row having dept =' '

According to me this testifies my belief that empty value is treated as null.
Is my assumption correct?
