There is no built-in function to get MAC address.
You have to find a Java class to do it (maybe system one contains such a function) and wrap it in Oracle.

Everything you can get through Java.
Java is part of Oracle RDBMS like PL/SQL.

If you want something unique for every machine, would the hostname or IP be sufficient?

SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'TERMINAL')
  FROM dual;

SELECT UTL_INADDR.get_host_address(SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'TERMINAL'))
  FROM dual;

I don't think this is OP is searching for.
Name and IP can be easily and dynamically changed. I think OP is searching for something static. For instance, something that can be use for licensing.

Is there a reason you quoted the original post?

One or more of us is confused. Who are you asking? Who quoted what? Is there a reason you responded to an ancient thread? Was something deleted that would have made this make sense?

in a 3-tier application, Oracle RDBMS never gets close to end user client system.
