Hello,

I'm wondering if there's a maximum size of operators used to build maps, or if there's any limits on their number or their names?

another thing,

can this error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small" be issued because of long presicion of numbers?? i mean by that the number of digits on the right of the decimal point..

your help is highly appreciated,
Thanks..

I wouldn't know the answer to your first question.

As of your second question, the answer is "no"; number of digits after the decimal point will not cause ORA-06502 (if you are storing this value into a NUMBER datatype column).

Oracle

ORA-06502 PL/SQL: numeric or value error string

Cause: An arithmetic, numeric, string, conversion, or constraint error occurred. For example, this error occurs if an attempt is made to assign the value NULL to a variable declared NOT NULL, or if an attempt is made to assign an integer larger than 99 to a variable declared NUMBER(2).

Action: Change the data, how it is manipulated, or how it is declared so that values do not violate constraints.

Here's an example:
SQL> create table test (col_unlimited number, col_limited number(3));

Table created.

SQL> NO PROBLEM!
SQL> insert into test (col_unlimited) values (123412414.12412341241141234124);

1 row created.

SQL> PROBLEM! A column is declared as NUMBER(3)
SQL> insert into test (col_limited) values (1234);
insert into test (col_limited) values (1234)
                                       *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column

SQL> NO PROBLEM!
SQL> insert into test (col_limited) values
  2  (123.1412412341241241241241241241241241412412341523645458895453463636346346
234525235235235235235234523452352);

1 row created.

I think the limit is the number of combinations that can be held by the repository tables. I've never heard of such a limit. And I'have made quite some mappings through OMB Plus scripts.
