Hi

I have 3 instances A, B and C. "C" is cloned from "A". All the instances are running in no archive mode. I have taken the full database back up of "A" with control file using rman after normal shutdown.

I just need to refresh the data of my instance "c" using the rman backup of "A". I am using RMAN with recovery catalog.
could someone please guide me or provide some source to read the procedure to do the refresh.

Thanks
Suresh

No refresh possible, you have to recreate the database each time as you did it the first time.

By the way, what is the purpose of B? you don't talk about it.

Thank you Michel. Please ignore B.

First time I did the cloning using "backup control file to trace".
I have not used RMAN to create the instance "C" from "A".
I need to refresh the instance "C" very frequently from A.
As of now i am recreating the control file using trace file and copying the all the datafiles from "A" for refresh.

Is there any other better way of doing refresh other than i am doing now. i am trying to implement RMAN. Is the anyother process in RMAN which i can implement.

Michel,

Should not the target database at least be in archive log mode for using the Duplicate command?.

The answer is most probably no.

Just wanted to confirm though.

Thank you.

You can do it with a target in mount and not open mode.
But I could be wrong, just try it.

Actually the target database should be OPEN or at least mounted. There are several ways to perform the duplicate database, however if you intend on doing it with the database OPEN, then you will need to be in archivelog mode.
