Search this forum for 'serial' (please note MY spelling) and for 'barcode' and 'bar code'.

Also, look at http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/88634/67467/

Develop the form on your PC using the Forms Developer Suite, then set up an Application Server and move your application to that machine, and then supply your users with the URL to invoke it.

Hi David, I think he meant he is trying to read a serial port from within a forms session (webbase meaning from an oracle form which have been deployed to the web on application server)
I used to read various serial devices from Forms6i, but that was easy being client-server. Now with forms 9i/10g being a browser session, not so easy anymore. I'm stuck with the same problem.
How can you access the local machines resources from a form running in a browser? The HOST command is no longer available on forms web is it? (tried it with no results) Neither does forms support embedded ActiveX controls anymore. Does anyone know how to execute external programs which returns a result back into the current form session? please help. Thanks

Have you tried the 'client_host' command?
