What do you see when you click the detail button ("...") next to the listbox of the installed clients? You should see a list of installed clients, even if they are invalid.

Rename it as ".txt", due to proxy/firewall restrictions, I can't download "reg" file.

Can you locate the TNSNAMES.ORA file (should be in ORACLE_HOME\NETWORK\ADMIN directory)? How does it look like?

How to resolve what?

If TNSNAMES.ORA exists, what happens when you click the "TNSnames Editor" button?

I have a feeling that we're chasing witches here. Perhaps you should just reinstall TOAD.

Who, me? No, I do not.

So, you are saying that TOAD 9.5 installed on MS Windows XP 64-bit raises "you have no Oracle clients installed" error. Right?

Did you install Oracle client (possibly Oracle Instant Client)?

You cannot use the 64-bit Oracle client - you must use the 32-bit client on 64-bit OS.
Cool

I just got the same problem.

I have installed oracle 11g R2 (64 bit) in Windows 7 opearting system (64 bit). I am able to connect oracle from sql*plus. But when i try to connect from toad 9.7.5 I get an error saying oracle client is not installed.
As per the previous threads I understood that we cant use oracle client (64 bit) for toad. Is that right.

Could you please help me how to overcome this issue.

Regards,
Pointers

Post problem on Quest forum or just use sql*plus

As far as I can tell, TOAD on MS Windows 7 works fine. It doesn't matter whether you install TOAD first, or Oracle Client first. What bothers TOAD is that it "hates" to be installed into a directory whose name contains brackets.

As TOAD is 32-bit application, it - as any other 32-bit application installed on 64-bit Windows - goes into "Program Files (x86)" directory. Well, TOAD complains about it. You might even get ORA-12514 or ORA-06413, although everything was installed successfully.

After hours of Googling, I found that TOAD should be installed into a directory whose name doesn't contain brackets. "(x86)" contains them so - avoid it. I thought: what the heck, I'll put it into "Program Files" ... directory as any other. Well, not really. Installer created some files in (x86) anyway, so this installation was really a garbage.

Therefore, I chose "C:\Toad" as a destination directory, installed TOAD in there and everything works OK.

As many of us do.

I read contents of the page you suggested. No major objections, but one: the first sentence:
Quote:
Did you ever get frustrated when you want to connect with your oracle database, but you have to install everything from oracle client software cd and waste for hundreds megs only to get connect with your database?

That's nonsense. "Install everything"? Oracle Universal Installer suggests several options, such as Instant Client, Runtime, and - oh, guess what? - Custom installation which enables you to choose individual components to install.

"Waste hundreds of megs"? No kidding! Instant Client (10.2.0.1.0) needs 498 MB. The same Instant Client ZIP file occupies 463.956 KB on disk. In order to use it (the way person who wrote that article says), you have to unzip it. How many MB would that waste? Hundreds of megs, right? So what difference does it make whether you actually install the Client software or just have it unzipped on disk? None, regarding the space. You might, however, find some difficulties trying to use certain functionalities because you didn't install the Client (because you chose to save hundreds of megs; right).

Oh well, never mind. I hope everyone enjoys his/her TOAD on Windows 7.

Wow, i was having the same kind of problem with toad and thought of asking others here in the forum, but seeing how the senior members troll here without trying to help is really pathetic. Seriously, this isnt the case in other tech forums. I even made a mistake of asking a problem i was having with some database deadlocks over here.. and these very smart senior members keep asking irrelevant stuffs making them look ultra smart without actually helping.

Sad experience here, really.

Littlefoot: As you are a moderator and that too a senior member, your reading skills must be good. Take a good look at how you guys behave specially when the original poster is quite polite and tries to be as informative as possible. Not all like arrogant irrelevant answers, please don't forget that there are thousands of more competent guys who are quite down to earth and don't try to be sarcastic or aggressive. None FORCED you to help either as well as none FORCED you not to help if you want.

Anyway, its futile talking about all these things in serious online forums as its mostly each for their own.

Peace from my end.
