What is the exact difference between Application server and database server?

The database server will have a database (like Oracle) on it.

The application server will have an application on it - typically running Oracle's Application Server or something equivalent.

database is normal,as we understood,for saving datas.
application server is nothing but middleware,acts between application and database.it collects datas from database and provides useful reports,end user needed informations.i hope it clears you good.
