Barcode is read by a barcode reader (a device, such as those produced by Metrologic). You don't have to do anything special to make it work - barcode reader "emulates" keyboard input (for example, it is connected to your computer by a cable which is plugged into the keyboard PS/2 port, while keyboard is plugged into a barcode reader's cable).

What do you call "generating" barcode in a form? What would you do once you "generate" it? Barcode is to be PRINTED on a paper; I don't see any other way to make it useful. What would you do with a barcode as item's value?
If you, however, want to do that, just make this item's font one of the barcode fonts (such as IDAutomation.com Code39).

I see; so you are talking about Report Builder's job here ("print employee's numbers"), not Forms Builder's one.

There were similar questions here before, so - use the OraFAQ Forum's Search facility to find another topics about "barcode".
