Fairly new to discoverer however is it possible to duplicate an existing business area including all joins through the creation of a new business area.

I am aware that discoverer uses the views owned by apps for the default EUL business areas.

EG.
create a
copy of purchasing folder with additional joins and lov's for a particular column. Then export from development area and add to existing production area whilst keeping original.

Any ideas anyone?

I probably misunderstand your question. Because:
if I have a folder called X and I copy that and name it XY, then export XY and import it into production, how can XY ever overwrite the (already existing in production) folder X?

within a business area the folders use business views. I cannot find a way to use a folder with the same credentials under a different name?

If I recall correctly, you can simply select a folder and then use ctrl-C, ctrl-V. Result is the same folder again with an 1 added at the end of the name.
Alternatively, create a new folder and use the same source table(s) as the original does.

Actually I have the exact same problem.
I guess my question is can I re-use the same X folder in Business Area 1 and Business Area 2 with the same name without having to get it renamed to Folder XY.

The reason for that if If can do that then everytime I use the name X folder in a different Business Area the content of the folder should be propagated to this new business area.

Much easier if you want to re-use the same folder content in new Business Area.

Can this be done and how ?

Cheers

Yes, can be done using manager folders (in the menu). You can look this up in the manual.
