I am using oracle 10g forms.I 've a date field of type date.I want the used to enter date in any format(dd/mm/yyyy,dd.mm.yyyy).And in my 'when_validate_item trigger' I am converting the date to dd-mon-yyyy format.

I havent used any format mask, still it is giving an error 'date must be entered in dd-mon-yyyy format'.

Please could anyone help me to solve this.

Thanks,
Sera

If you didn't use format mask then the default format of the date is dd-mon-yyyy. Another way to enter date in any format rather than using date field use text field and validate it using trigger. it will work fine.

This is the default behavour of form. Which means a date format must be defined for date item. So if you dont define any format it will take the default format "dd-mon-yyyy".

You can do this by taking a varchar2 item allow the user to insert date in any format in that varchar2 item and you programatically copy that date with your format in the base table block. Smile
